Yesterday morning I awoke to find that my beloved dog Mitzi had passed away during the night.

While I'm sure a lot of us proper geeks are eagerly awaiting Michael Bay's Transformers movie I witnessed a very different type of transformer this morning on my way to work. Click through for my rant on cyclists who transform from vehicles to pedestrians in the blink of an eye!

I just came across this amazing set of photos that offer a glimpse of North Korea that foreigners almost never see:

I'm just wondering... do you all do this? And if so, WHAT THE FUCK IS WRONG WITH YOU? Still burning butts fly in the windows of cars driving behind you causing the drivers to catch on fire leading to gigantic flaming accidents! They can also land in dry grass or trees and cause fires that CONSUME ENTIRE CITIES!
Use an ashtray. Please. Posted by Marc on 2005-10-16 12:08:55
Just finished on the set of a movie called "Fatal Error" starring Anne Heche and Eric Roberts.

There is a poll on the front page of the Herald website today asking:
"Ontario's pit bull ban takes effect today. Should N.S. adopt a similar ban?" If you care, go vote (the poll is far down on the right-hand side) Chronicle Herald Posted by Marc on 2005-08-27 10:34:01
Ontario-Bites
It seems that Ontario's dog laws are a back door into violating our rights - authorities (and I use that term loosely) can enter your home without a warrant if you are so much as accused of having a banned breed of dog. There's more but you can read it for yourself at the above link. Posted by Marc on 2005-08-16 12:43:34
In the wee hours of the morning my neighbour's house caught fire...

From the NS SPCA website:
![]() "One summer morning, this lovely abandoned young boxer mix was the victim of a hit and run, and left badly injured by the side of the road. Luckily for her, she had guardian angels who witnessed the accident, and brought her to a compassionate vet. Such a sweet girl was Nellie, giving kisses though in evident pain and surrounded by strangers. Nellie stole the hearts of her caregivers at Dartmouth Veterinary Hospital and they wanted so much to save her, they were prepared to give needed vet care at no cost. Unfortunately, the injuries were beyond the expertise of the resident vets. The most serious of Nellie's injuries was a fractured pelvis requiring extensive reconstructive surgery. Calls to experts yielded estimates of more than four thousand dollars for emergency care. That's when we got involved." Posted by Marc on 2005-06-08 16:47:09
Something must be done!

There's a backwards hick-type place in NS called Guysborough. They ban certain breeds of dogs out of ignorance. Most intelligent people know that breed banning isn't the solution, responsible ownership is - but thats a blog for another day. What I want to talk about today is that Guysborough is trying to remove a 13 year old pitbull from its family. This dog has NEVER been a problem for ANYONE and at 13 years old is near the end of its life but the sons of bitches in Guysborough's council want it removed. Fuck that makes me angry. It is the height of cruely to remove an animal from its life long home for NO GOOD REASON.
There is a column in today's Herald about this story. Posted by marc on 2003-01-04 13:38:01
Earlier this year I became addicted to a new sci-fi series on FOX called Firefly. The show really breaks with the norm and is quite a change from things like Enterprise or Andromeda. As is usual with unique and smart new shows, its ratings were dismal and has been put on hiatus. Word from the shows creator (Joss Whedon of Buffy and Angel fame) is that they are trying to get the show picked up by another network (UPN) and there is a grassroots effort to help this along: http://www.fireflysupport.com/

Walmart made an error in their latest flyer on the price of the season 3 dvd box set and have to honor that price until a retraction is printed. Run, don't walk to Walmart and get The Sopranos 3rd Season on dvd for only $64 compared to $84 at Future Shop. The sticker price at Walmart says $83 but it rings up as the sale price at the cash.

I can hardly believe it, my favorite comedian, the comic legend George Carlin is appearing in Halifax. Here is the link to the Metro Centre listing:

The infamous Gregg Loewen will be in town again between the 22nd and 27th if anyone is looking to get their expensive television calibrated to drool-worthy levels. Email me if you are interested and I'll coordinate an appointment with Gregg for you.
Both Steve and I can attest to the quality of Gregg's work. Posted by marc on 2001-11-09 11:01:24
An elderly Uzbek eats during a traditional feast in the frontier town of Termez, Afghnaistan, Wednesday, Nov. 7, 2001. While there have been protests in many Muslim countries against the U.S. bombings of Afghanistan, where the Taliban militia is sheltering suspected terrorist mastermind Osama bin Laden, there is little outward opposition in Uzbekistan. I have been corresponding with a new calibrationist over on the Home Theatre Forum by the name of Greg Loewen. He will be in Halifax in November and wants to do a "calibration" tour. I need 3 more people who want his sevices to make his trip worth while. It costs $250 US but will make your expensive television perform to its potential. Here is a thread on the HT Forum that discusses calibration. Anyone interested should let me know ASAP. Also include what kind of TV it is you want calibrated.
